The French bureaucracy nightmare: ANTS

Every expat in France knows it: the Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS). An online portal notorious for extremely long processing times, strict language barriers, and constant document rejections.

The hurdles of the prefecture

  • Strenge “Proof of residence”

Proof of residence is often rejected without reason because it does not exactly meet the French standard (e.g., EDF bills).

  • Faulty "e-photos"

The digital photo and signature system (e-photo avec signature numérique) will result in the cancellation of the application in case of minimal deviations.

  • Expiry of the 1-year period

A non-EU driving licence becomes invalid after one year of residence in France. Anyone who misses this deadline due to ANTS delays must complete driving school again from scratch.

Caution with post-Brexit documents: Holders of British driving licenses are subject to separate regulations in France since 2021. We will carefully check your issue date.
