Your own driving license is valid in Germany, at least to start with. If you are just visiting and come from outside the EU and EEA and do not intend to become a resident, you may need to get an international driving license or an official translation of your driving license in your home country along with your current license. And of course, you must meet the minimum driving age in Germany and any restrictions or conditions of your home license.

If you intend to establish a business residence in Germany, the following rules apply:

For licenses issued by European Union (EU) countries or the European Economic Area (EEA) member states of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway
If your license was issued by a European Union country or one of the EEA member states, it is usually valid as long as you are an official resident of Germany until it expires. (You can usually exchange it for a German driving license before the validity date expires.) There may be some restrictions – age, type of vehicles authorized to drive, etc. Even if your EU country driving license is a translation of a non-EU one, you may still be required to get a German driving license after six months. This is a question you will need to clarify with the local authorities.

For driving licences issued by countries outside the EU/EEA
If your driving licence was issued by a country outside the EU/EEA, you can only use it for six months from your date of entry. If you are staying in Germany for more than six months but less than a year, you can extend your existing licence for six months.

A non-EU national who lives in Germany for more than a year needs a German driving license. In many cases, this is a simple exchange of the driving license for a German one. In other cases, a written test, a driving test, or both is required.
